Luke Richard Alvarez

Age 36 of Plainfield, passed away unexpectedly Friday, March 31, 2023 in his sleep.

Born May 23, 1986 in Bloomingdale, he is the son of Mitch and Laurel (Bray) Alvarez. Luke was raised and educated in Tinley Park and New Lenox and went on to attend Columbia College in Chicago where he earned his bachelor’s degree in communications and graduated with the class of 2009. Luke was married in 2012 and in 2015 became a proud father to his beautiful daughter, Rosie. He spent time working with students at Acacia Academy, and was also a musician and a DJ. He went by the names “Luke the Duke” and “DJ El Train” and would perform in various clubs in the southwest suburbs. Due to a brain tumor removal in 2018, Luke had been living with disabilities, but that did not detour his drive to keep going. His last years were occupied by numerous sessions of physical therapy and occupational therapy, as well as spending time with his friends at the Synapse House in Downers Grove. Luke also spent as much time as he could with his loving daughter, Rosie. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his parents: Mitch and Laurel; daughter: Rosie; sister: Allison (Billy) Burnette, and niece and nephew: Claire and Max Burnette.

Luke was preceded in death by his grandparents: Glenn and Dolly Bray, and John Alvarez and Ginny Grove.

The family will receive relatives and friends for a visitation on Monday, April 3, 2023 from 3:00 p.m. until time of funeral service beginning at 7:00 p.m. at Tezak Funeral Home, 1211 Plainfield Road in Joliet. A private interment will be held at a later date and Luke will be laid to rest with his grandparents at Orland Park Memorial Cemetery.
