Loretta Catherine Wojtak, 91, passed away on Wednesday, January, 25, 2023 surrounded by her loving family.
A graduate of Joliet Township High School class of 1949, she met her future husband while attending Joliet Junior College and worked at Blockson Chemical. Soon after she stayed home to raise their children. After her husband passed away in 1968 she went back to school and graduated from the College of St. Francis with a teaching degree, teaching a few years and then earned a Masters Degree in education from Northern Illinois University. She taught 2nd grade at Galloway School in Channahon for 20 1/2 years and worked with some of the best and nicest teachers and administrators who remained her friends.
Many of her hobbies were playing cards, bingo and going to the mall to meet her friends. She enjoyed her grandchildren and great grandchildren and all the family gatherings.
Loretta enjoyed baking for all occasions, especially her chocolate chip cookies, which everyone loved. She enjoyed making Polish dishes for the holidays. She loved spending time with her retired teacher friends, catching up and reminiscing.
A former choir member and lector at Holy Cross Church Loretta was a member of the Federation of Teachers, Local 604, IRTA and JARTA.
She is preceded in death by her husband Alex M. Wojtak, one son A. Michael (Lee) Wojtak,her parents: Anton and Pauline Kropinski as well as her brothers: Joseph (Charlotte) Kropinski, Walter (Eunice) Kropinski and Edward who passed away in WWII, sisters: Catherine, Frances (Joseph) Verklan and Clara (Elvyn) Planing.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: Mary (Ron) McAdams, Paula (Rob) Holtzhauer , Anne (Ron) Lavazza and James (Lisa) Wojtak. Also surviving are her grandchildren: Jillian, Mallory, Jeremy, Jordan, Erica, Jyne and Tom as well as nine great grandchildren. We’d like to thank all her caregivers but especially Michal who “ loved her more”.
A celebration of Loretta’s life will be held at Tezak’s Home to Celebrate Life (1211 Plainfield Road, Joliet, IL 60435). There will be a visitation held on Monday January 30, 2023 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 31, 2023 with a visitation beginning at 8:30 a.m. followed by words of remembrance at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery, 200 W Romeo Rd, Romeoville, IL. at 11:30 a.m. with a chapel service at the cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions to the family will be given to Maya’s Food Pantry and the Will County Humane Society.
