Leonard J. Lewandowski, age 76, passed away on Monday, September 12, 2016 after a short illness.
Born in Joliet, IL to Anthony and Ann Lewandowski on August 27, 1940 and later moved to Freeport, IL to be near family.
Len is survived by sisters, Marcia (Joseph) Bardi of Fresno, CA and Diane (Allen) Drew of Freeport; sister-in-law, Sue Lewandowski of Rockford; brothers, David Lewandowski of Freeport and John Lewandowski of Bettendorf, IA; nieces, Allison (David) Collins, Melody Henson, Rebecca (Dan) Thompson; nephews, Christopher Bardi, Dan Lewandowski, Brian Lewandowski, Mark (Audra) Lewandowski, Tim (Elissa) Lewandowski, Quinn Henson; and numerous cousins.
Len is predeceased by his parents and brother, Anthony, Jr.
Len was a conscientious person and believed in hard work. He was a proud four-year active duty member of the United States Air Force as a Mechanical Technician on numerous different fighter planes stationed in Guam. After active duty in the Air Force, he joined the Air National Guard. Len also served three years active duty In the United States Army stationed at Fort Hood as a Crew Chief and a Crew Technician on helicopters. Following active service in the Army, he joined the Army Reserves. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Leonard’s name to the American Cancer Society would be appreciated.
A celebration of Leonard’s life will begin on Friday, September 16, 2016 with a visitation at Tezak Funeral Home, 1211 Plainfield Road, Joliet from 8:30 a.m. until the time of service to be held in the funeral home chapel at 10:30 a.m. Per Leonard wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. Interment will follow at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood.
