Lee Ursie Mitchell was born to Otis Mitchell and Martha Parker Mitchell on May 12, 1946. He graduated from Hinds County Agricultural High School in Utica, Mississippi on May 24, 1964. He joined the United States Army on March 4, 1965. He served in Vietnam and was honorably discharged on March 1, 1968. He joined the United States Army Reserve on March 4, 1971 and served for 22 years. He worked for the United States Postal Service from 1971 until December 31, 2005. He was a federal employee for a combined employment of 39 1/2 years.
He married Nettie Womack in March 7, 1970 and they resided in Oak Park, IL. He later married Pearlie McGee. They resided in Hernando, Mississippi and later returned to Yorkville, Illinois in 2014.
Lee was known by family as "Boo" and friends and colleagues as “Mitch.” He will be remembered for his love of "greens," sense of humor, going to the race track and the casino, and purchasing lottery tickets. Lee was also a proud fan of the Chicago White Sox.
Lee departed this life on February 6, 2019 at his home in Yorkville. He is preceded in death by his parents and two sisters Barbara and Yvonne .
He leaves, to share his precious memories, his wife Pearlie and stepson, Johnnie (Yuki) ; six children Cindy Hummons (John), Gerard Mitchell (Rosa), Corey Mitchell, LaShunda Hardy Gorman ,Vickye Beasley, and Octavia; brother James Mitchell and sister Phyllis Ward (Steve); three aunts Ruth Parker, Louise Blocker and Jean Jones, one Uncle Jack Parker; fourteen grandchildren, Christopher, George, Rich, Brittany, Brandon, Tyrone, Jonathan, Takari, Tyler, Courtnie, Alan Michael, Paul, Marisela, Jamie and Nine great grandchildren Desiree, Natali, Di-Anthony, Destini, Arcangello, Zayn, Aiden, Morgan and Londyn. He leaves a host of Uncles, Aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends to mourn his passing.

A celebration of Lee’s life will begin on Thursday, February 14, 2019 with a visitation at Tezak Funeral Home 1211 Plainfield Road - Joliet, IL from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 12:30 p.m. Interment will follow at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, IL.
