LaVonne ""Lonnie"" Greenberg (nee Fisher) Age 78 LaVonne died peacefully after an extensive battle with leukemia on January 2, 2011 at the Winchester Medical Center with her son David and his family from Charles Town, WV at her side.
Lonnie is survived by her children Deborah (Greenberg) Churchill, David Greenberg, Kline Goeders, Allen Goeders, Rita (Goeders) Beyenhot, and Wayne Goeders, sisters Lola Carrier and Louise (Fisher) Haack, brother Lowell Fisher, 26 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and many more cousins, nieces, and nephews. Lonnie is preceded in death by her parents Lloyd and Lena (Theesfield) Fisher, brother Leonard ""Dean"" Fisher, ex-husbands Leo Greenberg and Edward Goeders, and daughter Lynn Marie Greenberg.
Lonnie was born on a small farm in Sac City, IA and resided in Joliet, IL the past 33 years. Most of those years were in the St. Pat"s district as a member of the outstanding SPNA"s neighborhood watch program that commonly describe Lon as simply ""the eyes and ears of the area"". A devoted member of the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) and dedicated member of the Joliet Police Auxiliary with over 10 years volunteering with Child Safety Seat checks, Spotter Patrols, Crime Stoppers, and helping in the JPD payroll department along side her very close friend Kathy Grossklaus. Among the many accolades that Lonnie had earned through her many years of selfless service were the esteemed Citizen of the Year award presented by the Sheriff"s Department in 2004 and the coveted Volunteer of the Year award presented by the Illinois Triad in 2004.
The family invites relatives, friends, and the Joliet Police Department to attend a celebration of Lonnie"s Life on January 14, 2011 with visitation at 10:00 AM and service at 12:00 PM followed by a JPD escorted procession to drive pass Lonnie"s home one last time.
