LaVerne “Bonnie” C. Canty (nee Hammersmith), age 92, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 14, 2015.
Bonnie is survived by her loving children, Cheryl (Jim) Fleming, Patrick (Kathi) Canty and Michelle (Art) Galli; grandchildren, Bill and Ryan Fleming, Shay (Jake) Sarasohn, Sean (Johnette) Canty, Carrie Canty, Chris Doan and A.J. Galli; great-grandchildren, Sydney, Cara, Matthew, Isaiah, Malachy, Tegan, Lailah, Nicholas, Payton and Kali; siblings, Ginny (the late Jack) Morrow, Midge (the late Bill) Casper and Bud (Bridgette) Hammersmith; numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by her husband, Richard Canty (1986); parents, Timothy and Minerva (nee Brown) Hammersmith; siblings, Louise (Eddie) Klunk and Florence (Bob) Dube.
Bonnie was born and raised in Chicago, IL and retired from Goldblatt’s working as an elevator operator and switch board operator. Bonnie truly loved her family and her grandchildren and was an avid card player. She will be truly missed.
The family would like to offer a special thank you to the staff at the Allisonville Meadows Nursing Home in Fishers, IN for the wonderful care.
Donations in LaVerne’s name may be made to the American Alzheimer’s Association.
A celebration of Bonnie’s life will begin on Saturday, December 19, 2015 with a visitation at Tezak Funeral Home, 1211 Plainfield Road, Joliet from 9-11 a.m. A service will be held in the funeral home chapel following the visitation at 11:00 a.m. then driving in procession to St. Mary’s Cemetery in Evergreen Park.
