Kenneth P. Heinzel “Tuna,” age 91, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 3, 2017 with his family by his side.
Kenneth is survived by children, Debra Heinzel and Thomas (Sara) Heinzel; grandchildren, Meredith (Matthew) Stone, Daniel Heinzel, Timothy and Marisa Heinzel; great-granddaughters, Alina and Luciella Stone; daughter-in-law, Pamela (the late Paul) Heinzel; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Preceded in death by his wife, Marguerite (nee Simpson); parents, Stephen and Theresa (nee Garber) Heinzel; son, Paul Heinzel; siblings, Helene (Harold) Rasmussen, Stephen (Bernice), Robert (Leona) and William (Elaine) Heinzel.
Kenneth was born and raised in Joliet, IL. He was a proud United States Air Force Veteran and was a member of the American Legion Post #1080. Kenneth was also a longtime member of the Joliet Elks Club and was a parishioner of Holy Family Catholic Church in Shorewood. Kenneth was an avid fisherman and enjoyed taking trips to Canada and Lake Erie as well as local fishing at Meneoka Recreational Club. He was also passionate about cooking; he enjoyed barbequing for his family and friends at home, the Chicagoland Speedway and Meneoka. Tuna loved socializing with others and never hesitated to raise a glass. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
A celebration of Kenneth’s life will begin on Wednesday, March 8, 2017 with a visitation from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service to be held in the funeral home chapel at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Joliet. Visitation will be on Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at Tezak Funeral Home, 1211 Plainfield Road, Joliet from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
