Kenneth Leo Ernest

April 18, 1949 — October 20, 2024

Kenneth Leo Ernest, age 75, of Channahon, IL, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, October 22, 2024, in Joliet, IL.

Born and raised in Joliet, Ken dedicated his life to his family, his work, and his community. He served honorably in the U.S. Army and worked as a skilled carpenter for 35 years with Local 174, leaving a lasting impact on many throughout his career. A proud member of the Moose Fraternity, Ken was deeply involved in charitable efforts. Ken married his high school sweetheart, Deborah K. (née Alexander), on November 20, 1971. Their love story began when they were just teenagers and blossomed over 53 beautiful years of marriage. Together, they raised two children and were blessed with six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Ken cherished every moment spent with his family, including his beloved wife Debbie, his children Jason and Sarah, and his grandchildren Brianne Cox, Callie Ernest, Chloe Ernest, Alexis Jackson, Ethan Gass, and Cain Ernest. Ken was known for his vibrant personality and his love for life. He enjoyed cooking, tending to his garden, and cheering on his favorite sports teams, the Cubs and Bears. He had a soft spot for Hallmark movies and enjoyed traveling, dining out, and visiting casinos, always hoping for that big win. His laughter and warmth will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Ken is preceded in death by his parents, Gerald and Theresa (née Kure) Ernest; his brother, Gerald Ernest Jr.; and sister-in-law, Beverly Ernest (née Dallavia). He is also preceded by his father-in-law Charles Alexander and his mother-in-law Dorothy Alexander (nee Johnson), brothers-in-law Douglas Alexander and Norm Swope, sister-in-law Toni (Alphin) Alexander, niece Stephanie Cox (née Alexander), and numerous aunts and uncles.

He leaves behind his loving wife, Deborah; children: Jason (partner Fran Perakis) and Sarah (partner Branson Cigancik); grandchildren; great-grandchildren: Grace Breitwieser, Ariella Packer, and Ashton Breitwieser; sister-in-law Bonnie Swope; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Ken was a dear friend to many, especially four couples who were like family.

A celebration of Ken’s life was privately held on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, at Tezak’s Home, 1211 Plainfield Rd., Joliet, IL 60435, followed by burial at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Joliet.
