Juan Carlos Ochoa

Juan Carlos Ochoa gained his angel wings on February 12th, 2025. He was born in Torrance, California on July 30th in 1986 but was raised and resided in Joliet, Illinois for most of his life. Carlos’s life would seem too short to many, but those who were touched by him understood that the quality of his existence far exceeds the quantity of time in which he lived. 

Growing up, Carlos was an adventurous kid. He loved to play sports, most of all soccer. Countless years were spent with his cousins and friends making so many great memories on and off the field. He was strong and talented and always striving to make his loved ones proud. Carlos was creative and artistic and a natural with his sketching. Throughout his life, he had many dogs that became his babies. Duece, Ace, and Jayda always received the royalty treatment from their dad. Some often joked that his love for his dogs was his first true love. His parents would describe him as the most loving son. The one that would put everyone’s needs before his own. Aside from always lending a hand, Carlos constantly checked in on his parents and visited as much as he could. There were more days that he was at their house than days that he was not. At the age of 20, he joined the union as a carpenter and worked his way up to the foreman position. Throughout his 18 years as a proud union worker, Carlos was highly respected by his fellow workers. Many looked up to him as a role model and a leader. He strived to be perfect and consistent with everything he did, doing things the right way and constantly looking for ways to improve. He met his lovely wife Raquel Ochoa (Cantu) in 2012 and they spent 6 great years together before getting married on December 1st, 2018. In those seven years after, they welcomed two beautiful kids Camila (2020) and Santiago (2023). They created a beautiful home together with so much love and joy and so many memories created. His happy places included snuggling with his babies Cami and Santi, fishing and kayaking, traveling, and spending time with his wife and family. Carlos’s quick witted jokes, and big smile could light up any room. From phone call chats, to family parties, to dinners at his parents, to traveling with his wife, to giving his all to his kids… he was always there. He was the most loving son, husband, papi, brother, nephew, cousin, and uncle and will be dearly missed. Juan Carlos will always be remembered and forever in the hearts of his loved ones. 

He is survived by his wife, Raquel Ochoa (Cantu); daughter, Camila; son, Santiago; parents, Hernando and Maria Ochoa; sisters, Yolanda (Matthew Sr.) Muñoz, Meajean Ochoa, and Esmeralda Ochoa; nieces, Anessa and Malena; nephews, Matthew Jr, Julian, Esteban, and Elias.

 He is preceded in death by his grandparents Ponciano and Efigenia Vargas, Carlos and Magdalena Ochoa, tios Octavio Vargas, Carlos Ochoa, and Jorge Solórzano, tías: Silvia Contreras, and Leticia Esquivel.

A celebration of Juan’s life will be held with visitation on Thursday, February 20, 2025 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Tezak Funeral Home, 1211 Plainfield Rd, Joliet, IL.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am on Friday, February 21, 2025 at St. Patrick’s Church, 710 W. Marion St., Joliet, IL. with burial to follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery, 1320 E. Cass St, Joliet, IL.

Juan Carlos Ochoa obtuvo sus alas de ángel el 12 de Febrero de 2025. Nació en Torrance, California, el 30 de Julio de 1986, pero creció y residió en Joliet, Illinois, durante la mayor parte de su vida. La vida de Carlos podría parecer demasiado corta para muchos, pero aquellos que fueron tocados por él entendieron que la calidad de su existencia supera con creces la cantidad de tiempo en el que vivió.

De niño, Carlos era aventurero. Le encantaba practicar deportes, especialmente el fútbol. Pasó incontables años con sus primos y amigos creando recuerdos maravillosos dentro y fuera del campo. Era fuerte y talentoso, y siempre se esforzaba por hacer sentir orgullosos a sus seres queridos. Carlos era creativo y artístico, y tenía una habilidad natural para el dibujo. A lo largo de su vida, tuvo muchos perros que se convirtieron en sus bebés. Duece, Ace y Jayda siempre recibían el trato de realeza por parte de su papá. Algunos solían bromear diciendo que su amor por sus perros fue su primer verdadero amor. Sus padres lo describían como el hijo más cariñoso, el que ponía las necesidades de los demás antes que las suyas. Aparte de siempre estar dispuesto a ayudar, Carlos siempre revisaba a sus padres y los visitaba siempre que podía. Hubo más días que estuvo en su casa que días que no. A los 20 años, se unió al sindicato como carpintero y ascendió hasta el puesto de capataz. A lo largo de sus 18 años como trabajador orgulloso del sindicato, Carlos fue altamente respetado por sus compañeros. Muchos lo consideraban un modelo a seguir y un líder. Se esforzaba por ser perfecto y constante con todo lo que hacía, haciendo las cosas de la manera correcta y buscando siempre formas de mejorar. Conoció a su encantadora esposa Raquel Ochoa (Cantu) en 2012, y pasaron 6 grandes años juntos antes de casarse el 1 de diciembre de 2018. En esos siete años posteriores, dieron la bienvenida a dos hermosos hijos: Camila (2020) y Santiago (2023). Juntos crearon un hogar hermoso lleno de amor, alegría y muchos recuerdos. Sus lugares felices incluían acurrucarse con sus bebés Cami y Santi, pescar y hacer kayak, viajar y pasar tiempo con su esposa y su familia. El rápido sentido del humor de Carlos y su gran sonrisa podían iluminar cualquier habitación. Desde charlas telefónicas, hasta fiestas familiares, cenas en casa de sus padres, viajes con su esposa, hasta darlo todo por sus hijos... siempre estaba allí. Fue el hijo, esposo, papi, hermano, sobrino, primo y tío más amoroso, y será profundamente extrañado. Juan Carlos siempre será recordado y permanecerá para siempre en los corazones de sus seres queridos.

Le sobreviven su esposa, Raquel Ochoa (Cantu); hija, Camila; hijo, Santiago; padres, Hernando y María Ochoa; hermanas, Yolanda (Matthew Sr.) Muñoz, Meajean Ochoa y Esmeralda Ochoa; sobrinas, Anessa y Malena; sobrinos, Matthew Jr, Julian, Esteban y Elías.

Le preceden en la muerte sus abuelos Ponciano y Efigenia Vargas, Carlos y Magdalena Ochoa, tíos Octavio Vargas, Carlos Ochoa y Jorge Solórzano, tías: Silvia Contreras y Leticia Esquivel.

Una celebración de la vida de Juan se llevará a cabo con visita el Jueves 20 de Febrero de 2025 de 4:00 pm a 8:00 pm en Tezak Funeral Home, 1211 Plainfield Rd, Joliet, IL.

Los servicios funerarios se llevarán a cabo a las 10:30 am del Viernes 21 de Febrero de 2025 en la iglesia de St. Patrick’s, 710 W. Marion St., Joliet, IL, con sepultura a seguir en el cementerio Mount Olivet, 1320 E. Cass St, Joliet, IL.
