Joyce E. Giardina (nee Owen), a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 16, 2024, in Joliet, IL. Her passing marks the end of a life filled with love, laughter, and unwavering dedication.

Born in Glasgow, Ky. Joyce was a vibrant and multifaceted individual whose career spanned various roles, each approached with her characteristic enthusiasm and dedication. She devoted 20 years to the Naperville Police Department, making a lasting impact with her commitment and service. As Joyce is listed on the monument at the Police Department. Her diverse career also included roles as a cook & waitress at diner/pharmacy, drive-in, and Telephone operator. As secretary for Swenson’s Construction, A Bus company, Argonne National Laboratories, Downers Grove Police Dept., College of St.Francis. Finally working for the Naperville Police Dept. as a Administrative Assistant.

Joyce's personal life was rich with passions and interests that she pursued with equal fervor. She delighted in hosting tea parties for her beloved grandchildren, Ruby and Lily, a testament to her nurturing spirit. Her love for walking, traveling, and exploring new places was evident in her frequent escapades and her fondness for the Travel Channel, with dreams of visiting Italy, France, and beyond. Joyce was an avid reader, enjoying novels by John Grisham, Tom Clancy, and Agatha Christie, as well as indulging in PBS Mystery Theater. She also had a soft spot for mysteries, including the novel "Murder in a Tea Cup”. 

A lifelong sports enthusiast, Joyce was a passionate Chicago Blackhawks fan and followed baseball with zeal, holding a special place in her heart for the St. Louis Cardinals from her childhood before embracing the Chicago Cubs after relocating upstate.

Joyce's legacy is carried on by her loving children: Todd (Maureen) Giardina, Kimberly (Thomas) Roberson, and Evan (Danielle) Giardina. She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren: Thomas D. Roberson, Timothy M. Roberson, Tyler A. Roberson, Nichole (Jim) Mitchell, Holly Giardina, Ruby Joy Giardina, Lily June Giardina, and Daisy Jo Giardina, as well as her great-grandchildren: Keira Owen Roberson, L.J. Roberson, and Isla Mitchell. Her memory is further honored by her siblings: Marilyn (Steve) Unger, Sharon (Don) Dixon, Steve (Christie) Owen, and Cindy (Dan) Houmes, alongside numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Joyce was preceded in death by her beloved Joseph L. Giardina; her parents, Cecil S. and Mildred S. (nee Page) Owen; stepchildren Mark S. and Jeffrey M. Giardina; her paternal grandparents, Charles and Ruby Owen; her uncle, Milton Page; and many other aunts, uncles, and relatives who will be remembered fondly.

A Visitation to celebrate Joyce's remarkable life will be held at Tezak’s Home to Celebrate Life, 1211 Plainfield Rd., Joliet, IL, on Saturday, September 21, 2024 from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm, with words of remembrance taking place at 3:00 pm. Following her wishes, a precession and cremation will occur.

Joyce E. Giardina will be deeply missed, but her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. Her kindness, passion, and love for life remain a guiding light for those she leaves behind.
