Joseph H. Stengele

Joseph H. Stengele, age 87, of Joliet and Manitowish Waters, WI, passed away peacefully, Monday, September 7, 2015, at the Joliet Area Community Hospice Home.

A lifelong resident of Joliet and moved to Manitowish Waters upon his retirement from Joliet Warehouse and Transfer in 1990.

Preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Gladys (nee Hauser) of Joliet; one brother, John, of Booth Bay Harbor, ME.

Survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Doris Lea (nee Folkers) of Joliet; six sons: Joseph and Judith (nee Batis) of Joliet, David and Barbara (nee Ramos) of Joliet, Robert and Patricia (nee Kuligoski) of Naperville, Thomas and Katherine (nee Petru) of Shorewood, James and Jane (nee Wartenberg) of Joliet, and Lee and Amy (nee Nedjlik) of Winchester, WI; one daughter, Susan (Tim) Dollaske of Fennville, MI; eight grandchildren: Robert (Sharri) Stengele, Eric Stengele, Jackie (Michael) Underwood, James Stengele, John Stengele, Andrew Stengele, Brett Stengele, and Sadie Stengele; four great-grandchildren: Jay Stengele, Makayla and Brooke Stengele, and Genevieve Underwood. Several cousins also survive.

Joe was an active member of the Kiwanis Club of Joliet, Boys and Girls Club of Joliet, the Joliet Chamber of Commerce, and various other organizations throughout his career. Proud graduate of Joliet Catholic High School and the University of Notre Dame. An avid golfer, fisherman, and hobbyist making many toys for the grandkids and great grandkids. Loyal Cubs and Bears fan and even once trying out as a pitcher for the Cubs in the minor leagues.

The Stengele family would like to thank Visiting Angels, Presence St. Joseph Medical Center, and Joliet Area Community Hospice for the excellent care he received.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name may be made to the Boys and Girls Club of Joliet or the Kiwanis Club Charities would be appreciated.

A Celebration of Joseph's life will begin on Friday, September 11, 2015 with a visitation from 9:00 a.m. until the time of Mass of Christian Burial to be held at 10:00 a.m. at the Cathedral of St. Raymond in Joliet. Per Joseph's wishes cremation rites have been accorded. There will be NO services held at the funeral home.
