Joseph P. Podobnik

Joseph P. Podobnik, age 71, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 26, 2013 at his home, with his loving family by his side.

Survived by his two sisters Geraldine J. Podobnik O.S.F., and Susan A. (Mike) Fittro of Cedar Rapids IA; his brother Raymond V. Podobnik; two nieces Lisa (Mark) Ziniel of Iowa City IA and Lovey A. Thomas of Tracy CA; one nephew Kevin (Tanya) Fittro of Cedar Falls IA; numerous grand-nieces and grand-nephews also survive.

Preceded in death by his parents Frank J. and Mary A. (nee Senffner) Podobnik; and one brother Frank S. Podobnik.

Joseph was a graduate of St. Mary Nativity Grade school, Joliet Catholic High School and Northern Illinois University. He exceled in football at Joliet Catholic High School, and was a member of the 1956 Pony League World Series championship team. Joseph served in the United States Army and was employed by the CECO Steel Corporation and the Laborer Local #75 of Joliet, IL.



In lieu of flowers donations in JosephA�??s name may be made to the St. Mary Nativity Athletic Fund or Joliet Area Community Hospice.

A Celebration of JosephA�??s life will begin on Monday, March 4, 2013 at 9:30 a.m. with prayers at the funeral home chapel then moving in procession to St. Mary Nativity Catholic Church, for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Interment at St. Mary Nativity Cemetery in Crest Hill. Visitation will be on Sunday, March 3, 2013 from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at TezakA�??s Home to Celebrate Life.
