February 4, 1950 — July 5, 2021

John “Joe” Tamayo

Age 71 of Joliet, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, July 5, 2021.

Born February 4, 1950, John Joseph was a son of Jesus and Maria (Rico) Tamayo. He was raised and educated in Joliet and graduated from Joliet Central High School with the class of 1968. Following graduation, Joe went on to work for EJ&E Railroad for a number of years and then took a job with Citgo at the oil refinery plant where he remained until retirement. In 1970, Joe married his best friend, Kathryn Haag at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Morris. Together John and Kathy made a home and raised their family in Joliet. Joe was a loyal Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears fan, an avid reader and a fan of all types of music. He loved relaxing with a good book, a game on the TV and being with his many family pets through the years, but Joe’s favorite times were always spent with his family. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Joe is survived by his wife of 51 years, Kathy; daughter: Tracy Tamayo; siblings: Ann Dolnak, Jesse (Mary) Tamayo, Tony (Angie) Tamayo, Manual (Sharon) Tamayo and Mary (the late Travis) Young; sisters-in-law: Cynthia (Jim) Thomas and Karen Patton, and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his parents: Jesus and Maria; siblings: Henry (Pauline) Tamayo, Fred Tamayo, Hope (George) Arzate and Frank Tamayo and Grandma Angela Riley.
