John D. Zaletel, age 32, beloved son, brother, grandson, nephew, uncle, godfather and friend closed his short life on Thursday, February 10, 2011 at his late residence. Born in Joliet, he grew up in Shorewood, graduating from Troy Jr. High and JT West High School. John lived and worked in Denver, Colorado for three years before returning to Joliet. He worked as a high tower climber. John enjoyed and excelled in many sports during his life, from Troy Baseball to high school football, baseball and basketball, to winning pool trophies, fishing, and always trying to improve his golf score. John loved the games and the friendships of his many friends who shared these passions with him. He was a huge Chicago Cubs and Bears fan. He was a great son, spending his last day on Earth helping his parents with home repairs.
He is survived by his parents, Betty (nee Burzawa) and Dennis Zaletel of Minooka, sisters Chris (Joe) Bajner and Carrie Zaletel, grandfather Raymond Zaletel and grandmother Gertrude Flaynik, nephews Jacob, Cameron, and Connor Hotuyec, Joey and Jimmy Bajner, uncle Gerald Burzawa, aunts Sue (Kevin Coughlin) Burzawa and Theresa A. McGuire, godmother Judy Skoff, as well as numerous cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents Kitty and Felix Burzawa, William Flaynik, and Lucille Zaletel.
John was a member of Ravens AC.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to John"s family would be appreciated.
Services will begin with prayers at the funeral home on Monday, February 14, 2010 at 9:30 AM, then in procession to Holy Cross Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Crest Hill. Visitation will be on Sunday from 2 - 8 PM with prayers and sharing of memories at 7 PM.
