John L. Zak Jr., age 89, passed away on Saturday, November 26, 2016. Born in Joliet, IL on September 19, 1927 to John Sr. and Anna (nee Marusak) Zak.
John is survived by his daughter, Barbara (James) Prola of Darien; son, Robert (Christine) Zak of Plainfield; granddaughter, Colleen (Matt) Gonzalez; Grandson, Nicholas (Jessie) Prola; sisters-in-law, Marie (Thomas) Shroba, Emerza (Joseph) Shroba and Mary (Aloysius) Shroba; special friends, Len and Doris Huumo; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Preceded in death by his beloved wife, Anna (nee Shroba); parents, John Sr. and Anna (nee Marusak) Zak; brothers, Rudy (Mary) Zak, Francis (JoAnn) Zak; and sister, Dorothy (John) Hritz.
John graduated from Joliet Central High School and was employed by U.S. Steel as an Accountant for 35 years. John was a recipient of the American Legion Award. He was a parishioner of St. Mary Nativity Catholic Church in Joliet. John will be remembered for his kind and gentle spirit and endearing sense of humor.

A celebration of John’s life will begin on Wednesday, November 30, 2016 with a visitation at Tezak Funeral Home, 1211 Plainfield Road, Joliet from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service to be held in the funeral home chapel at 10:30 a.m. Interment to follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Joliet.
