John F. Worst "Jack," age 64, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 12, 2013 with his loving family by his side.
Jack is survived by his beloved wife of 37 years, Mary Ann (nee Freehauf) Worst; his children, Jenna (Nick) Ponio and Elise Worst; two grandchildren, Riley and Frankie Ponio; one brother, Jim (Linda) Worst. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
Preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Catherine (nee McGuire) Worst.
Jack was born and raised in Joliet, IL, attended St. Patrick Grade school and graduated from Joliet West High School. He was employed by Citgo Oil Refinery Company for 18 years. However, Jack was best known for his lifelong career as a barber. Jack's hobbies included fishing, hunting with his beloved dog Nellie and supporting his favorite team, the Chicago Blackhawks. He was also a member of the Joliet Rivals Club. Jack was also a familiar face in the bleachers of the Coal City Chaos travel baseball team, supporting his grandson Riley. Jack was well known for his dry sense of humor that everyone loved. Jack was a man of few words married to his wife Mary Ann, a woman of many words. Jack brought joy and love to all who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of John Worst can be made to the University of Chicago Medicine. A Celebration of Jack's life will begin on Wednesday, December 18, 2013 with prayers in the Tezak Funeral Home chapel at 9:30 a.m. then moving in procession to St. Anne Catholic Church in Crest Hill for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Per Jack's wishes cremation rites will be accorded following services. Visitation will be on Tuesday, December 17, 2013 at Tezak Funeral Home, 1211 Plainfield Road, Joliet, 60435 from 3-8 p.m. a prayer service will take place at 7:00 p.m.
