John "Wolfman" Henry McCormick

June 2, 1950 — September 5, 2024

Joliet

John Henry “Wolfman” McCormick, age 74 of Joliet, passed away at Advocate Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn, IL on September 5, 2024. He was born to James A. McCormick and Rosalia McCormick (nee Wurtz) on June 2, 1950 in Watseka, IL.

John, better known as Wolfman by all those who knew and loved him, was as kind as he was strong. He worked in maintenance on heavy equipment at Caterpillar, Inc. and was an avid biker in his off time. Any opportunity to hop on the bike and hit the open road was pure heaven for Wolfman. He also worked as a bouncer in area bars and a DJ, spreading his love for all music, but especially country music. He gave his heart to his children, raising them with an appreciation for hunting, fishing, camping and many other outdoors activities. He loved to watch old Westerns and read a good book, and his kindness was on full display through his work with local charitable organization bike runs, spreading joy to those who need it most. His family will struggle with this great loss, but the memory of his well-worn smile will help to carry them through.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Mary McCormick, and his brothers Bob McCormick, Mike McCormick, and George McCormick.

John is survived by his loving wife Jan McCormick (nee Howaniec), his sons Steve (Sara) McCormick, Scott (Vickie) McCormick, James (Rebecca) Minton, and Joseph Minton. He was blessed with many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Those left to cherish his memory also include his brother Jay (Linda) McCormick, his sister Debbie (the late Monty) Carman, and his brothers Bill McCormick, Tom (Tammy) McCormick, and Leo McCormick.

Per John’s wishes, cremation rites have been accorded and a memorial service will be scheduled in the future.
