John C Vershay

John Charles Vershay, age 84, lifelong resident of Joliet, passed away peacefully at Provena St. Joseph Medical Center on March 9, 2011. Beloved father of Janet Todt, Gary (Sarah), Judy (Donald) Edwards, Paul (Barbara), and Ronald; dear brother of Donald (Marlene) and Beverly (Roland) Condon; proud grandfather of numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents John J. and Mary (nee Gergovich) Vershay and his brother Richard.

He retired from Olin Chemical after 41 years. John was a veteran of WWII serving in the U.S. Navy Air Corp from 1944 to 1946. John was a kind, loving and dedicated father, grandfather and great-grandfather. John loved fishing, bowling, billiards, cooking and going to the racetrack.

Family would like to thank each and every one of the extraordinary loving caregivers that touched John"s life. These were all exceptional people here in our community from Vital Wellness at Essington Place, Loyalton of Joliet, Lakewood Nursing Home and all of the nurses, CNA"s, and chaplains of Provena St. Joseph Medical Center and Joliet Area Community Hospice. A special thank you to all his doctors, especially Dr. R.W. Schubert, Mary Kronenburger and their staff at Optima Medical Association. These are people who all went above and beyond the call of duty to make John feel loved and respected with their warmth and heart-felt attention. These people have a lot of love for the seniors they take care of. We were truly blessed by God to have them in our lives. John will be truly missed. Donations may be made in his name to Joliet Area Community Hospice.

A Celebration of John"s life will begin on Monday, March 14 at 9:30 am with prayers at the funeral home chapel then in procession to St. Joseph Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am. Interment at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood. Visitation will be Sunday, March 13 from 2 to 6 pm.
