John R. Thomas, age 93, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 7, 2015.
John is survived by his loving children, Rich (Susan) Thomas and Jeanette (Robert) Sheffield; cherished grandchildren, Rick Thomas, John (Corli) Thomas, and Sandi (Tony) Corniel, Eric Sheffield, Andrea (Zach) Sounhein, and Michael Sheffield; cherished great-grandson, Jackson Thomas; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his beloved wife of 53 years, Mary (nee Faynik) (2001); seven dear sisters; and six dear brothers.
John served proudly in the US Navy during WWII on the USS Parker with his twin brother, Ed. He was a lifelong resident of Crest Hill and longtime parishioner of St. Anne Catholic Church. John retired from Olin Chemical after over 35 years of employment. He was a lifelong Cubs fan. John was a handy man and could fix just about anything. He will be forever missed by his family and friends.

A Celebration of John’s life will begin on Friday, December 11, 2015 with prayers in the funeral home chapel at 10:30 a.m. then driving in procession to St. Anne Catholic Church in Crest Hill for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Romeoville where military honors will be rendered. Visitation will be Thursday, December 10 from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Tezak Funeral Home, 1211 Plainfield Road, Joliet.
