John L. Sitar Jr.

John L. Sitar Jr., age 77, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 1, 2016 with his loving family by his side.

John is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Beverly (nee Allison); children, Karen (Mike) Nawa and Jennifer (Brian) Errthum; grandchildren, Maggie and Matthew Nawa and Joe and Allison Errthum; sister-in-law, Kathleen (the late Robert) Sitar; numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by his parents, John and Helen (nee Moholick) Sitar; brother, Robert L. Sitar; and nephew, John F. Sitar.

John was born and raised in Joliet and started playing music professionally at the young age of 16. After graduating from Joliet Catholic Academy and attaining an Associate Degree from Joliet Junior College, John joined the United States Navy in 1963 and was Honorably Discharged in 1965. He was best known for his music and owned and operated Sitar’s Music and Electronics from 1972 until 2012. John’s greatest passion was entertaining all different generations of people and teaching countless students the art of music. He was a member of the St. Bernard Catholic Church Parish in Joliet. John will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

In lieu of flowers, donations in John’s name to Illinois Music Educators Association, 18700 Wolf Road Suite 208, Mokena, IL or Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home in Joliet would be appreciated.

The family would like to offer a special thank you to Dad’s Hospice Angels, Dedrae and Pam as well as Barbara Jean and the staff at Our Lady of Angels.

A celebration of John’s life will begin on Thursday, May 5, 2016 with prayers in the funeral home chapel at 9:10 a.m. then driving in procession to St. Bernard Catholic Church in Joliet for a Mass of Christian Burial to be held at 10:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood. Visitation will be on Wednesday, May 4, 2016 at Tezak Funeral Home, 1211 Plainfield Road, Joliet from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m..
