John Joseph "Shoes" Shaw Jr.

John Joseph Shaw, Jr. “Shoes”, 64, passed away Monday, February 14, 2022

John was born March 11, 1957 and raised in Joliet, graduating from St. Cyril Methodius Grade School, and Providence Catholic High School. John was a diehard Chicago White Sox fan and Chicago Blackhawks fan. He loved playing slow-pitch softball and was considered one of the best pitchers in the region. John played softball for almost 20 years during which time he and his teammates won numerous championships in both recreational and competitive leagues.

He worked as a mechanic/welder for 38 years for ComEd, which was sold to Midwest Generation then NRG. John made many lifelong friends during his years at work He retired in March 2015.

Preceded in death by his parents John J. Shaw and Joann M. Shaw, 2 sisters, Joan M. Shaw and Annamae Mitchell, and a brother-in-law, Guy Mitchell.

He is survived by his loving wife of almost 45 years, Monica (nee Vickers). Also survived by his children Holly Frank and Ryan (Katie) Shaw, 3 loving grandchildren, a grandson Gabriel Frank, and 2 granddaughters Kyla and Kenzie Shaw. One niece, Collen Mitchell

John also leaves behind extended family members. His “adopted” daughter, Rebecca Vanderhyden, three “adopted” grandchildren, Grace, Nathan, and Nora Vanderhyden. His dearest friends Michael and Kathy Trizna and Barrett and Liz Harvey, as well as too many others to mention.

A celebration of John’s life will be held on Friday, February 18, 2022 Tezak Funeral Home, 1211 Plainfield Road from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Per families wishes cremation rites will be accorded following Visitation.

In lieu of flowers donations to the Leukemia Society of America would be appreciated.
