John S. Russ

John S. Russ, age 65, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on Tuesday, January 14, 2014, surrounded by his loving family.

John is survived by his beloved wife of 39 years, Geradette (nee Hankovcak); his children, John J. (Danae) Russ and Scott (fiancA�AC. Katie) Russ; one brother, Gerald (Janet) Russ; dear aunt, Bernadine Russ; sister-in-law, Pat (Dave) Morelli; brother-in-law, John (Cindy) Hankovcak. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Preceded in death by his parents, John J. and Barbara (nee Dragovan) Russ; mother-in-law and father-in-law, John and Mathilda Hankovcak; and nephew, Mark Russ.

John was the founder and owner of J Russ and Company where he built the company from a small one man enterprise to a major player in the local construction and civic arena. He, along with his wife, worked tirelessly for this endeavor which became a central focus of his life's work. He was an avid gardener, drag racer, Lionel Train collector along with toys and vintage automobiles. John's greatest asset to his collection were his countless friends who are too numerous to mention but all held a special place in his heart. John was a member of the Contractors Association of Will and Grundy Counties and the Moran Athletic Club. John was a loving husband and father who touched the lives of many and will never be forgotten.

Donations in John's name to the American Chicago Cancer Society, 4234 North Michigan Ave. Ste. 1200, Chicago, IL 60601, or for Masses at St. Mary Nativity Catholic Church would be appreciated.

A Celebration of John's life will begin on Saturday, January 18, 2014 with prayers in the funeral home chapel at 9:10 a.m. then driving in procession to St. Mary Nativity Catholic Church in Joliet for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Interment to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Joliet. Visitation will be on Friday, January 17, 2014 from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 pm at Tezak Funeral Home, 1211 Plainfield Road, Joliet, 60435.
