John S. Horvat, age 85, at rest on Tuesday, March 8, 2016.
Survived by his two sons, James (Sue) Horvat and Daniel (Mary) Horvat; 10 grandchildren, Amy (Jon McCormick) Smith, Renee (Jim) Wuttke, Kristin (Matt) Middleton, Kyle (Miriam Leon) Horvat, Courtney Horvat, Callie Horvat, Zak Horvat, Gina (Charlie) Martin, Kevin and Paul Frieh, and Tony Slobodnik; 12 great-grandchildren, Jakob, Austyn, Jaxon, Blake, Eric, Angel, Logan, Lexi, twins Aubree and Brody, Alexis, and Zac; as well as numerous nieces.
Preceded in death by his beloved wife, Carol Horvat (2015); parents, John and Anna (nee Matesha); daughters, Catherine Horvat-O’Connor and Joan Horvat-Frieh; one grandson in infancy, Keith Horvat; sister, Vicki Siems; and great-granddaughter, Ellie.
John was born and raised in Joliet, IL and was a parishioner at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Joliet his entire life. He was a proud United States Army Veteran and was member of the American Legion Post 1080. He was also a member of the Joliet Moose Lodge 300. John was the Vice-president auditor of the First National Bank of Joliet for 45 years. He enjoyed playing the piano and woodworking and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, donations in John’s name to the LaSalle Veterans Home, 1015 O'Conor Avenue, LaSalle, IL 61301 or the Alzheimer’s Association would be appreciated.
A celebration of John’s life will begin on Friday, March 11, 2016 at Tezak Funeral Home, 1211 Plainfield Road, Joliet, IL with a visitation from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service to be held in the funeral home chapel at 11:00 a.m. Fr. Jim Lennon officiating. Full military honors will be held following the service. Entombment to follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Romeoville.
