Age 83, at rest Saturday January 24, 2009 at his late residence.
Survived by his loving wife of 55 years, (Joyce nee Spiers) Helis; two sons, Gerald A. (Diane), and Steven A. (Cindy); grandfather of Jason A. (Jennifer), Ryan M. (Sara), Stacey A. (Eric Reimer), Joseph E. Helis, Shawn (Angie) Krupianik, Lori (Bill) Rakoski, Ryan and Katie Krupianik; great-grandfather of Xavier, Jenny, Max, Macy, Ethan Ave, Taylor, Lucas, Allison and Megan Krupianik; brother, Louis (Eleanor) Helis; and sister, Helen Helis; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Born in Joliet.
Preceded in death by his parents, Stefan and Johanna (nee Javorik) Helis; grandson, Dylan Krupianik; two brothers, Joseph and Steve (Mary) Helis and; his sister, Mary Pubentz.
Veteran of the U.S. Navy served as a Helmsman on a Landing Craft Tank LCT 1358. John Retried from the Army Corp of Engineers after 40 years of service.

From were services will be held Wednesday, 9:30 AM, to the Cathedral of St. Raymond for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM. Visitation Tuesday, from 2 to 8 PM. Interment Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery.
