Joan E. Cromer (nee Likar)
Age 89 of Rockdale, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, November 17, 2023 with her family by her side.
Born September 2, 1934, Joan was a daughter of George and Mary (Babich) Likar. She was raised and educated in Joliet and graduated from Lockport High School with the class of 1952. Also in 1952, Joan married the love of her life, Mr. Kenneth Cromer at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Joliet. Together they made a home and raised their family. Joan was a devout Catholic and longtime parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church. She was employed with and after many dedicated years, retired from the K-Mart Corporation, but her main job was taking care of her family. Joan carried a heart of gold and would do anything for anyone in need. She was a great cook who in her free-time enjoyed going dancing at the Slovenian club and playing card games with family and friends. Joan will be deeply missed but never forgotten by all who knew her.
She is survived by her children: Georgene (the late James) Papesh, Wayne (Karen) Cromer, Darlene (Charles) Quinn and Carolyn (Donald) Wortmann; grandchildren: Bruce Lundborg, Nicole (Ben) Boresi, and Jenna (John) O’Hara; great grandchildren: Braxton and Boden Boresi; sister: Beatrice (the late Leroy) Fothergill, and brother: Norbert (Linda) Likar, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Joan was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years: Kenneth who passed away in 2018; son: Gregory Cromer; granddaughter: Celisa Henning; great-granddaughters: McKayla and Addison Henning; parents: George and Mary Likar; brother: Arthur Likar and sister: Rachael Erreck.
Per Joan’s wishes, cremation rites have been accorded.
The family will receive relatives and friends for a memorial visitation on Wednesday, November 22, 2023 from 9:30 a.m. until the start of the Mass of Christian Burial which will begin at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 416 N. Chicago Street in Joliet. Interment will follow and Joan will be laid to rest with her husband at St. Joseph Cemetery in Joliet.
