Jerry L. Pool
Passed away Sunday morning, January 31, 2010. The angels came to bring our husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend Jerry Lee Pool home to be at peace forever in the arms of our Lord after a two and a half year battle with cancer and a very rare antibody.
Born in Corydon, IA on January 8, 1946, he attended Iowa grade and high schools before moving to Joliet in 1964 where he met his wife of 44 years, Charlene, and together they have seven faithful, loving children and 11 grandchildren.
Jerry will be remembered for his love of sports. He coached many area baseball, football and basketball teams. His passion for youth sports was never more evident then the time he spent in Catholic Youth Organization, primarily supporting St. John the Baptist grade school, where he wore many hats, including coach, Board Member and tournament director. Jerry also served as a baseball, basketball and football official. He was also a big fan of Joliet Catholic High School. Jerry believed in working hard to support his family. He retired from Commonwealth Edison in 1995. Not able to relax, Jerry also worked part-time at J & M Printers in the morning while officiating various sports in the afternoon to keep him busy.
Jerry is preceded in death by his mother, Edith Walker, his father, Ray Arthur Pool as well as his sister, Gwana Taylor, and his father-in-law Charles Sanford.
Leaving to cherish his memory are his wife of 44 years Charlene (nee Sanford) Pool; children Chuck (Elaine), Chris (Kim), Sue (Rick) Baker, Amy (Tom) Zazzetti, Jake, Megan (Steve) Stevenson and Amber; grandchildren Jerry Noah, Abby, Kelli, Konnor, Keaton, Kayla, Miranda, Haley, Jesse, Jagger and T.J; mother-in-law LaVon Sanford; sisters Mary Hayes, Betty Carr and Donna Randolph along with numerous nieces and nephews.
