Jerome A. Harvey, age 93, entered into eternal life on Sunday, January 15, 2017.
Jerome is survived by his beloved wife of 73 years, Shirley (nee Halweg); loving sons, James (Pam), Thomas (Karen), Daniel (Mari Ann), Dennis (Kim), and Ronald Harvey; cherished grandchildren, Jerry, Tim, Rick, Mike, Liz (John) Fox, Nick (Amy), Geoff, Tom, Anthony, Amanda (Douglass) Glidden, Alison, John Paul, Jesse, Joshua, Misty (Matt) Canfarelli, and Grant; numerous cherished great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by three sons, Jerome P., Michael C., and William J. Harvey; parents, William and Margaret (nee Herbert) Harvey; his Ma and Pa, Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Parks; sisters, Patricia, Mary, and Anna Mae Harvey, Edna Carnegie; brothers, Bernard and Joe Harvey.
Jerome was a graduate of Joliet Township High School. He served proudly in the US Navy aboard the USS Borie DD-704 as an electrician First Class, surviving a Kamikaze attack during the final days of WWII. He was employed at EJ & E Railroad as a signal supervisor and Metra Railroad. Jerome was a dedicated White Sox fan and groundskeeper for Ingalls Park Youth Baseball for many years. He especially enjoyed rooting for his grandchildren on the ballfield. Jerome was a lifetime member of VFW Cantigny Post #367. He was a faithful attendee at the monthly EJ & E retirement luncheons. He was a grateful member of Alcoholics Anonymous being sober for 57 years. More than anything Jerome was a devoted family man. His wife, children, and grandchildren were his life.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Jerome’s name to St. Jude Catholic Grade School, 2204 McDonough St, Joliet, IL 60436, would be greatly appreciated.
A Celebration of Jerome’s life will begin on Thursday, January 19, 2017 with a visitation from 9:00 a.m. until the time of funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at Tezak Funeral Home, 1211 Plainfield Rd, Joliet, IL 60435. Interment to follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park with full military honors.
