Jean Govednik passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on Thursday August 18, 2016.
Jean, "Teta", was a loving, extremely independent and very generous woman. She was very proud of her Slovenian heritage and was a lifelong member of the Slovenian Union of America. She was a member of their cadet drill team for many years. She was a faithful parishioner of St. Joseph's Church and was a member of their Altar and Rosary Society and St. Joseph's Senior Citizen Association.
Jean graduated from St. Joseph's Grade School and Providence High School. She worked as a supervisor for Illinois Bell for many years until she took an early retirement. She was a member of the Professional Business Woman's Club during her working years and after retirement.
Jean had the opportunity to travel to many countries including visiting her relatives in Slovenia on two occasions. She had many other interests and hobbies over the years. She enjoyed gardening and was very proud of her beautiful flower gardens. Jean bowled on several leagues and enjoyed taking classes with friends, including ceramics and hat making. She also modeled for a local woman's clothing store for several years. She volunteered for the Rialto Theatre for many years as well.
Preceded in death by her father Joseph and mother Johanna (Kosmerl) and brothers William and James.
Jean is survived by her loving sister, Dorothy (John) Mahan; brother, Joseph (Barbara); sister-in-law, Diane Govednik, and many nieces and nephews.
Her family was an important part of her life and she thoroughly enjoyed spending time with them, especially her many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Teta will be greatly missed.
A celebration of Jean’s life will begin on Monday, August 22, 2016 with a visitation at Tezak Funeral Home, 1211 Plainfield Road, Joliet from 9:00 a.m. to 10:20 a.m. then driving in procession to St. Joseph Catholic Church in Joliet for a Mass of Christian Burial to be held at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Joliet.
