James Henry Reibel, aged 94, passed away at home surrounded by his family on April 21, 2024.
Jim was born on November 9, 1929 to John and Helah Reibel in Detroit, Michigan, where his father was employed as a tool and die maker at the Ford Motor Company.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 67 years, Mary Jane; his brother Robert; and half-siblings John, Kenneth, Todd, Dorothy, and Mary Jane.
He is survived by his three children, Kenneth of Milwaukee, WI; Denise of Joliet, IL; and John of Carol Stream, IL. He also enjoyed six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren during his life.
Dad was a 1954 graduate of Wayne State University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting. After college, he was drafted into the U.S. Army where he played clarinet in the regimental band. He was discharged from active duty in July, 1956. Mom and Dad moved to Kalamazoo, MI soon after, where Dad worked as an accountant and later as a realtor. Mom was a registered nurse.
He was known for his good nature, quick wit, and willingness to serve others. He loved classical music and played bassoon in the Kalamazoo Symphony orchestra. He was also a lifelong Detroit Tigers fan. He will be missed by many.
A celebration of Jim's life will be held on Friday, June 21, 2024 with a memorial gathering at Tezak’s Home to Celebrate Life, 1211 Plainfield Road, Joliet from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. with military honors taking place at 3:30 p.m. There will be a memorial service officiated in Jim's honor at 5:00 p.m.
