James L. Ackerman, age 76, of Joliet, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on July 24, 2012. Survived by loving wife Kay Ackerman; his children Cheryl (Ty) Bergan and Carl (Claritza) Ackerman; grandchildren Adric (Dolly) and Zachary Bergan, Anthony and Matthew Ackerman, Clarindy Gonzalez and Claudio Laspes; sister Joan Metesh.
Preceded in death by his mother Ethel Wood and his father Carlyle Ackerman.
His passion was volunteering at Operation Care Package and he deeply cared about his family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to Operation Care Package, 611 Wilcox Street, Joliet, IL 60435.
Funeral services and military honors for James L. Ackerman will begin on Friday, July 27, 2012 at 6:30 pm at the funeral home chapel. Interment will be held privately. Visitation will be on Friday from 5:00 pm to 8:00pm.
