Irene F. Koren

Irene F. Koren (nee Suligoy) age 94, of Joliet, formerly of Shorewood and Wilmington, IL, passed away Monday, February 9, 2015 at Presence Saint Joseph Medical Center.

Irene was born on December 4, 1920 to Joseph and Mary (nee Prelos) Suligoy in Rockdale, IL.

She is survived by one daughter, Cheryl-Ann (Frank Mantia); one daughter-in-law, Judy (the late Eugene "Gene") Koren (nee Jerzycki); and three grandsons, Daniel (Trish), Randy (Lisa) and Scott (Carolyn). Loving great-grandmother of Ian and Connor Koren. She is also survived by many treasured nieces, nephews and friends, including her extended family of Pam, Bill, Taelor and Eric Brett.

Preceded in death by her parents; husband, Stanley (1986); son, Eugene "Gene" (1995); five sisters, Anna Klein, Josephine "Jay" Boyer, Mary Gattiglio, Rosalie Woodin and Florence "Sally" Majeske Edwards. She was also preceded in death by brothers, Joseph, Andrew and Tony Suligoy, along with special sisters-in-law, Tillie Suligoy and Vivian Suligoy.

A special thank you Dr. Sergi Kravets and Tammy of the Family Medical Group, Dr. Worood Abboud and Tiffany, Denise and Dina of JOHA, and Dr. Abdul Sankari of Heartland Cardiology for all of their excellent care and compassion through the years. Thank you also to the CICU, 4W at Presence Saint Joseph Medical Center, as well as to Nichola and Nancy Bostjancic for all of their thoughtfulness and assistance given to Irene through the years.

A Celebration of Irene's life will begin on Saturday, February 14, 2015 with prayers in the funeral home chapel at 9:20 a.m. then driving in procession to St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rockdale for a Mass of Christian Burial to be held at 10:00 a.m. Fr. James Lennon officiating. Interment to follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be Friday, February 13, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Tezak Funeral Home, 1211 Plainfield Rd, Joliet, IL 60435.
