At rest on Thursday, February 12, 2009 at Our Lady of Angels surrounded by her loving family. Survived by her devoted daughter Catherine (Earl) Scholp; loving grandchildren Judy (Jack) Tezak, Douglas, Daniel, Matthew (Kim) Scholp; Teresa (Raul) Valladolid and David (Tracy) Scholp; fourteen great-grandchildren; nine great-great grandchildren; special aunt Phyllis (Lloyd) Flatt; special cousins Rudy Silvestrini, Delores (late Robert) Page, Verna (Brooks) Crum, Marilyn (George) Vercelotti and Joseph (Diane) Maielli. Preceded in death by her husband James ""Hughie"" Coomes (1973); her parents Charles (1962) and Catherine Pessina (1946) and Silvio Aguzzi; aunts Harriet (Joseph) Maielli (1997) and Lillian (August) Silvestrini (2000). Ida was born in Milwaukee, WI and then moved to Joliet when she was 9. She graduated from Joliet Township in 1939 and married James in 1941 and had her only daughter in 1943, raising her alone for 4 years while her husband served in WWII in the South Pacific. Throughout her life, one of Ida"s greatest passions was dancing. She spent many evenings dancing in the Slovenian Hall wearing beautiful dresses of her own creation. She enjoyed cooking for her family and is fondly remembered for her sausage and peppers, deviled eggs, and homemade Italian dressing. Ida loved spending time with her family and friends and will be greatly missed. Her final days that were spent at Our Lady of Angels were made special by the caring and compassionate staff and the friendships that were formed there. In lieu of flowers, masses in Ida"s name would be appreciated. The family would like to thank the kind staff at Our Lady of Angels, especially those working in wing C-9 and the Joliet Area Community Hospice.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, February 17, 2009 at Our Lady of Angels at 10:00 AM. Interment will be at St. Patrick Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday, February 16, 2009 at Our Lady of Angels from 4-8 PM.
