Henrietta Gomez
Age 88 of Joliet, passed away peacefully in her home of over 60 years with her family by her side.
Born September 4, 1933 in Joliet, Henrietta was a daughter of Cleto and Anita (Roa) Hernandez. She was raised and educated in Joliet and graduated from St. Francis Academy with the class of 1953. Following graduation, Henrietta began working at the Ordinance Ammunition Command. It was there that she met her future husband, Augustine Gomez, and together they made a home and raised their family in Joliet. After taking time off to raise her five children, Henrietta returned to work at St. Patrick’s Residence in Naperville from where she retired after many years of dedication and care. Her most treasured times were always spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Henrietta will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
She is the beloved mother of: Leslie Gomez, Kathleen (Rick) Fox, Bruce Gomez, Judith (Danny) Hileman and Pamela (Barry) Bottino; loving grandmother of: Anthony (Karen) Gomez, James Gomez, Martin Gomez, Brandon (Chris) Gomez, Benjamin (Katelyn) Fox, Joshua (fiancé Bridgette) Fox, Elizabeth (Chase) Filson and Danielle (fiancé David) Hileman, and Erin and Maria Bottino; cherished great-grandmother of: Elijah and Charlotte Fox, Carver and Eiley Filson, and Michael and Steven Gomez, and caring sister of: Rose Mattson and Angie Earle.
Henrietta was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years: Augustine J. Gomez who passed away in 2008; parents: Cleto and Anita, and siblings: Elvira Meads, Esther Padilla and Anthony Hernandez.
Per Henrietta’s wishes, cremation rites have been accorded.
The family will receive relatives and friends for a memorial visitation on Thursday, July 14, 2022 from 9:30 a.m. until time of Mass of Christian Burial beginning at 10:30 a.m. at St. Bernard’s Roman Catholic Church, 1301 Sterling Avenue in Joliet. Interment will follow and Henrietta will be laid to rest with her husband at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, Illinois.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made as gifts in Henrietta’s name to Compassionate Care Hospice, 200 N. Hammes Avenue in Joliet.
