Helen Rose Kanta, age 87. Born May 3, 1929 in Joliet to Stephen and Margaret (Pisut) Kanta. Passed away peacefully at the Joliet Area Community Hospice Home on May 26, 2016.
A lifelong Joliet resident and member of the Cathedral of St. Raymond.
Helen is survived by her brother, Benedict (Monica) Kanta; sister, Anna Kanta; nephew, Kenneth (JoAnn, deceased) Dutka; great-nieces and great-nephew, Kathy (Tony) Leszczynski, Mary (David) Morgan, Patty (Jim) Eggen, and Mike Dutka. Numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.
Preceded in death by her parents; brothers Louis Kanta; Joseph (Marie) Kanta; Stephen (Florence) Kanta; and Edward Kanta; sisters Emily (Norman, deceased) Russum; Mary (Joseph, deceased) Krol; Irene (John, deceased) Dutka and Margaret (William, deceased) Meyer.
Helen retired from Illinois Bell in 1981 after 27 years of dedicated service. She belonged to the Telephone Pioneers and the Joliet Seniors Club. She enjoyed planting flowers and having a garden. She loved to take pictures. Her most enjoyable job was babysitting her great-nieces and great-nephews. She taught them how to play cards, speak a few phrases in Slovak, pray, bake, and have fun. She will be greatly missed.
Funeral will be on Saturday, May 28th at the Cathedral of St. Raymond Nonnatus for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Interment to follow at SS. Cyril & Methodius Cemetery. Visitation 1 hour prior to service at Tezak Funeral Home, 1211 Plainfield Rd. Joliet, Saturday morning from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. and then driving in procession to the Cathedral of St. Raymond Nonnatus.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Joliet Area Community Hospice or the Cathedral of St. Raymond Nonnatus.
