Gloria Rose Sefcik

April 15, 1927 — January 4, 2014

Gloria R. Sefcik (nee Fietterer), age 86, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family, on Saturday, January 4, 2014.

Gloria is survived by her daughter, Nancy (Joseph) Rice; three grandchildren Stacey (Nathan) Schmidt, Tiffany (Mark) Miller, Allison Kay Sefcik; four great-grandchildren Ryan and Kelsey Schmidt, Jackson and Agatha Miller; and one sister, Lorraine Boseo; daughter-in-law, Kathleen Sefcik; sister-in-law, Josephine (John) Olivero; two brothers-in-law, Seddy (Frances) Sefcik and Donald (Kathleen) Sefcik. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Preceded in death by her beloved husband of 65 years, Emil P. Sefcik (2012); her parents, Carl and Angela (nee Gualdoni) Fietterer; her son Kenneth W. Sefcik; great-granddaughter, Alaina Renee Schmidt; two nephews, Thomas Ryan and William Boseo.

Gloria was an avid gardener, loved flowers, and making floral arrangements. She loved the outdoors and feeding the wildlife that came to visit. Gloria was a faithful parishioner of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Joliet. She will be remembered as a woman of great faith, strength, and integrity. One of Gloria's greatest charms was her ability to "tell it like it is." By her example she taught her family to stand up for what they believe in. Gloria was a loving and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister who will be dearly missed.

The family would like to offer a sincere thank you to all of the staff at Emeritus Assisted Living in Orland Park and Home Bound Hospice of Lemont for the wonderful care provided to Gloria and Emil.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Gloria's name to Home Bound Hospice, 14216 McCarthy Road, Lemont, IL 60439, or the Alzheimer's Association, 850 Essington Road, Suite 200, Joliet, IL, 60435 would be appreciated.

A celebration of Gloria's life will begin on Saturday, January 11, 2014 with prayers in the funeral home chapel at 9:20 a.m. then driving in procession to St. Anthony Catholic Church in Joliet for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Per Gloria's wishes cremation rites will be accorded. Inurnment will be held privately at Resurrection Cemetery in Romeoville. Visitation will be on Friday, January 10, 2014 at Tezak Funeral Home, 1211 Plainfield Rd., Joliet from 2-8 p.m.
