Gerald Thomas Fitzgerald

Gerald Thomas Fitzgerald, age 86 of Joliet, died from complications of cancer on Labor Day, September 2, 2024 in his former home with his family by his side. He was born on June 18, 1938 to John T. Fitzgerald and Darlene Fitzgerald (nee McElroy).

A United States Marine Veteran, he was honorably discharged on March 3, 1959 as an expert rifleman. He went on to become a proud Teamster and a philanthropist who supported many charities including veterans’ organizations, children’s hospitals, and animal shelters. He was an active member of Belmont Little League in Joliet and a life-long Cubs fan. 

Gerald was preceded in death by his wife Dolores Fitzgerald (nee Dernulc) and is survived by his sons Gerald “Jerry”, John, Frank, Robert, Donald, and Brian Fitzgerald as well as his daughters Diana English and Kelly Fitzgerald, his daughter-in-law Melanie, along with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life Visitation will be held on Friday September 6, 2024 from 3:00 pm – 7:00 pm at Tezak’s Home to Celebrate Life, 1211 Plainfield Rd. Joliet, IL. Cremation rites will be accorded following the visitation.
