George Gulas
September 14, 1923 — September 17, 2015
George Gulas entered eternal life on Thursday, September 17, 2015, three days following his 92nd birthday, surrounded by his loving family.
George is survived by three sons, George (Kim), Jim (Sue), and Bill; daughter, Maria; grandchildren, Stephanie (fiance Adam Lewickas), Katie, Jenny and Nick; sister, Irene (the late John) Nickelson, brother-in-law, Burnett (the late Margie) Reimers, and sister-in-law, Mary (the late Leonard) Musich; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Preceded in death by his wife, Isabelle (Musich), mother and father, Mary (nee Urbanec) and Gabriel Gulas, sisters, Mary (Thomas) Legan, Ann (George) Peceniak, Margie (Burnett) Reimers, and several siblings in infancy.
George served in WWII as a medic. He worked at Joliet Rivals Club and EJ&E before retiring from Alumax Aluminum. He was a lifelong parishioner of Annunciation Byzantine Catholic Church (formerly St. Mary Assumption, Joliet) where he served as an usher for many years. George enjoyed gardening, mushroom picking, word searches, and vacationing and fishing in Wisconsin with his family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Annunciation Byzantine Church would be appreciated.
George will lie-in-state on Monday, September 21, 2015 at Annunciation Byzantine Church, 14610 S. Will Cook Rd, Homer Glenn, IL 60451 from 9:00 a.m. until the time of Liturgy of Christian Burial to be held at 10:00 a.m. Interment to follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Joliet. Visitation will be Sunday, September 20, from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Tezak Funeral Home, 1211 Plainfield Road, Joliet. Parastas service to be held at 7:30 p.m.
