George R. Farkas
George Richard Farkas was born in Joliet on April 9, 1927. He passed away at Sunny Hill Nursing Home in Joliet on February 6, 2010. He was a life-long resident of Joliet. On May 8, 1948 George married his sweetie, Delores M. Rakowski, after having served his country in the U.S. Army Air Force, where he had been stationed in the Philippines. George then worked as a blacksmith/heat treater at U.S. Steel for 38 years before retiring in 1982. He also worked part-time as an aluminum window and door installer. He bowled on the Friday night Rivals league for many years.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 61 years, Delores M. Farkas, his son Richard M. Farkas, his daughter-in-law Lisa M. (nee Brunner) Farkas, and his grandson Christopher M. Farkas. Also surviving are his brother Robert (Laurie nee Holmquist) Farkas, his sister Marjorie (late Stephen) Palko, his sister-in-law Gloria (nee Papesh) Farkas, as well as nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his son Russell M. Farkas, his grandson Kevin M. Farkas, his parents John and Anna (nee Cipala) Farkas, and his brother John Farkas.
George"s family would like to thank the staff at Sunny Hill for the loving care that they gave him for the past 11 days.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 11 at 11AM at the funeral home. Interment at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Joliet. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 3:00 until 8:00 PM at Tezak"s Home to Celebrate Life 1211 Plainfield Rd. Joliet, IL.
