Genevieve M. Gora (nee Gembicki)
Age 99 of Joliet, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 6, 2022 at home with loving family by her side.
Born December 15, 1922 in Joliet, Genevieve was a daughter of Peter and Mary (Szymaszek) Gembicki. She was raised and educated in Joliet. Genevieve was a devout Catholic, former member of St. Thaddeus Catholic Church and a longtime parishioner of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church as well as a member of the church women’s club. Genevieve loved birds and enjoyed bird watching. She also enjoyed playing the organ, gardening, sewing, baking, making crafts and relaxing with a challenging word search in her lap. She will be remembered for her smile, sense of humor, and willingness to always help at family parties or anywhere she could, and in doing so, always looking her best. Genevieve will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her sister: Helen (the late Perry) Scarsellato and numerous nieces and nephews.
Genevieve is preceded in death by her husband: Zigmont Gora who passed away in 1972; parents: Peter and Mary Gembicki; sisters: Irene Gembicki and Frances (Bert) Torkelson, and brother: Stanley Gembicki.
Family will receive relatives and friends for a visitation on Wednesday, July 13, 2022 from 9:00 a.m. until time of closing prayers beginning at 10:15 a.m. at Tezak Funeral Home, 1211 Plainfield Road in Joliet. The funeral will then drive in procession to St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, 1301 Sterling Avenue in Joliet for a Mass of Christian Burial beginning at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow and Genevieve will be laid to rest next to her husband at Mt. Olivet Catholic Cemetery in Joliet.
