Frederick Martin, age 92, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 28, 2022 with his loving family by his side.
Fred is survived by his wife of 72 years, Maryrose (née Luchik) and children: Sharon (the late Mark) Evans, Janice (John) Sinchak, Fredrick (Ruth) Martin, and Christopher (Eileen) Martin; grandchildren: Kyleen Evans, Tonille Evans, Hailey Mary Evans, Amanda (Matt) Bethards, Ashley (Kal Zamnun) Hutcherson, Ali Hutcherson, Chad Martin, Natalie Martin, Madeline Martin, Kate Martin, Steven Martin; great-grandchildren: Evany Okon, Makayla, Lilianne & Tristen Bethards, Jacob & Khalil Zamnun.
He is preceded in death by his parents: Henry and Stella (nee Kamitch) Martin; siblings: Henry (Billie) Martin, Loretta (Leo) Wortman, Raymond Martin, Eugene (Pauline) Martin and twins in infancy, George & John, and his grandson: Mark K. Evans.
Fred was a lifelong resident of Rockdale and was a United States Army Veteran in the Korean War. He worked with Olin Chemical for 38 years and was a police officer and volunteer fireman for the village of Rockdale. As a member of the VFW and Dale AC he developed many old-timer relationships. In his early years he was an avid baseball player, making a run at the majors as a catcher within the Boston Red Sox farm system; he then leveraged those baseball skills for many years coaching youth leagues. Throughout his life he also enjoyed fishing and following the White Sox, Blackhawks, and Bears. Fred was a dedicated and loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother who will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Frederick's name may be made to Centered Care Hospice in Joliet or St. Jude Catholic Church in Joliet.
Per Fred’s wishes, cremation rites have been accorded.
The family offers a special thank you to all the loving people who cared for Pops over the past years.
The family invites relatives and friends to join them for a Memorial Mass to be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 19, 2022 at St. Jude Catholic Church in Joliet. Interment will be held at a later date.
