Age 91, lifelong resident of Joliet passed away Thursday, May 15 at his home with his family. Frank always had a smile and a one-liner for his many lunchtime and evening customers at his downtown food and drink establishment, the Downtowner, which closed in 1975. After that he kept his social life active by selling promotional items for Midwest Promotional Group until recently.
Frank was an active member of the Joliet Exchange Club for 40 years and a lifetime member of the Illinois Licensed Beverage Association and American Legion Post 1080. Frank served in the army with the 7th Infantry division from 1942 to 1946 and continued to serve until 1950 as a First Lieutenant. With his daughters in tow, he attended 7th Infantry reunions on a regular basis.
He was preceded in death his wife, Victoria (Jelenich) Lewandowski who passed away June 22, 1997. Preceded in death by his parents Agnes (Harloza) and Valentine Lewandowski, his three brothers Alex, Stanley, and Tony Lewandowski, two sisters Clara Ryan and Florence Esler. He is survived by his four children, June Lewandowski, Bill Lewandowski, Mary (Jim) Bulger and Nancy Hooks. He is also survived by two grandsons, Justin and Michael Hooks, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Prayer services will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday at 9:30 am then to Holy Cross Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian Burial to be Celebrated at 10 am Interment Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery with Full Military Honors Visitation will be Monday from 2 to 8:pm
