Age 88. At rest Sunday, June 22, 2008 at Joliet Area Community Hospice Home surrounded by his loving family.
Survived by one son, Francis D. (Linda) Szabo; three daughters, Rosemarie (Stanley) Korwin, Carolann (Lawrence) Hoffman, and Kathleen F. Szabo; six grandchildren, Cynthia Szabo, Lori (Tim) Theobald, Christopher (Patricia) Szabo, Timothy Hoffman, Jaime and Michelle Korwin; six great-grandchildren, Joshua Szabo, Tyler and Emily Theobald, Edward Macholz, Zoe Korwin, Nathaniel Palacios; also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Helen (nee Fabian) Szabo; his loving wife of 50 years, Florence M. Szabo (nee Mitok); two brothers, Joseph Szabo and Al Nemeth; and one sister, Anna Pavlik.
Francis was a parishioner of St. Mary Nativity for most of his life. He was a member of the American Legion Harwood Post, Joliet Moose Lodge 300, Joliet Elks, St. Mary Nativity Joannites. Francis was a member of the Conservation Corps and stationed in Montana during WWII.
Francis also enjoyed feeding the birds and the neighborhood stray cats. He loved his two calico cats, Baby and Kali. Francis was a diehard Cub Fan! The family of Francis L. Szabo would like to thank Joliet Area Community Hospice for their excellent care.
In lieu of flowers, memorials honoring Francis Szabo to the Joliet Area Community Hospice would be appreciated.
From where a Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, June 25th, 2008 at 10am at St. Mary Nativity Catholic Church. Internment following at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, June 24th, 2008 from 2-4 and 6-8pm.
