Francesca Medved nee Berdon, 82, of Joliet, passed away peacefully on January 20, 2017, surrounded by her family at Joliet Area Community Hospice.
She was born in Slovenia in 1934 to the late Anton and Marija Berdon. She immigrated to the U.S. in 1956. A Joliet resident, she was formerly employed as a cook at D'Amico's Restaurant and Earl's Café where she was known for her pasta sauce. She was also known for her baking, especially potica, kolachkes, and pizzelles. Franny enjoyed going to garage sales, doing yard work, and going dancing on the weekends. She was a member of the Young Timer's Club of Lockport and the Croatian Cultural Club.
She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings and husband Izidor (1989).
She will be lovingly remembered by her sons, Mario (Melissa) of Joliet and Tony (Kathy) of New Lenox; grandchildren Angel Medved of Tennessee; Tom (Elena), Mike, and Tim Medved of Joliet; Lori Posch and Patty Posch of Joliet and Theresa (Steve) Zoelzer of Edinburg; and Mallory (Kevin) Whaley and Tony (Rian) Medved of New Lenox; great-grandchildren Josh Medved of Joliet; Audra, Isadora, and Avery Medved of Joliet; Veronica Hernandez of Joliet; and Cameron Medved and Jack Whaley of New Lenox; and great-great-grandchild Nicholas Dimitroff of Joliet.

A celebration of Francesca's life will begin on Wednesday, January 25, 2017 with prayers in the funeral home chapel at 9:20 a.m. then driving in procession to Holy Cross Catholic Church in Joliet for a Mass of Christian Burial to be held at 10:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Elmhurst Cemetery in Joliet. Visitation will be on Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at Tezak Funeral Home, 1211 Plainfield Road, Joliet from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
