Frances Schultz

Frances Schultz (Jacksa), age 86 of Joliet, Illinois; died Sunday, August 22nd, 2021 at Lightways Hospice (formerly Joliet Area Community Hospice) with her loving family by her side.

Beloved wife of 57 years to former Mayor of Joliet Arthur Schultz where they were joined in the Holy Sacrament of Matrimony at the Cathedral of St Raymond’s on November 6th, 1954. She attended St Raymond’s Grade School and St. Francis Academy High School. Survived by her five children, Debbie (Richard) Fonck, Retired Will County Clerk Nancy (Steve) Schultz Voots, Art Schultz, Danny (Sue) Schultz and Mike Schultz; seven grandchildren, Rick Fonck, Rachel (Mike) Johnston, Max (Tiffany) Voots, Samantha (Corey) Archey, Mark (Chloe) Schultz, and Brett Schultz (Girlfriend Stefani DeBenedetti) & Maggie (Fiancé Jozef Tobias) Schultz; eight great grandchildren, Hannah & Charlotte Johnston, Ivanna, Vince, & Cade Voots, Luna Frances Archey, and Francesca & Daniel Schultz; her sister-in-law, Marcella (the late Joseph) Jacksa; and brother, Richard Jacksa.

Preceded in death by her beloved husband, former Mayor of Joliet, Arthur Schultz (2011); parents, Joseph and Mary Jenny (nee Obert) Jacksa; sisters Shirley (the late Robert) Skerjan, Rosemary (the late Raymond) Slobodnik, sisters-in-law Norma Skerjan and Clara Schultz; and her grandchildren, Arthur Schultz Jr., Jennifer and Sarah Voots.

Fran, a policeman’s wife for 30 years, was proud to be Joliet’s First Lady for 20 years alongside her husband Mayor Art Schultz. She was honored to have “Frannie” fountain at Bicentennial Park named after her for her work in the community. She was a member of the American Legion Post 1080, Slovenian Women’s Union and Heritage Association, and a parishioner of the Cathedral of St. Raymond’s Parish. She was a lifetime Joliet resident and a long time Will County Republican Election Judge.

Fran enjoyed having the toughest job in the world as wife/mom/grandma and loved her family deeply. She liked to shop (especially at Carsons) and go out to lunch with her friend Pauline. She would not pass up a good deal and loved to celebrate her new bargains. Fran had fond memories living in the St Joe’s Park area, regularly walking to Mitchell’s grocery store less than a block away. On Sundays she often attended the parish picnics and loved dancing to polka music. Fran’s smile would draw you in and she always took time to talk with everyone.

A celebration of Frances’ life will begin on Wednesday, August 25, 2021 with prayers in the funeral home chapel at 9:20 a.m. then driving in procession to the Cathedral of St. Raymond for a Mass of Christian Burial to be held at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Romeoville, where Frances will be laid to rest with her beloved husband, Arthur. Visitation will be on Tuesday, August 24, 2021 at Tezak Funeral Home, 1211 Plainfield Road, Joliet from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
