Florence J. Wicnienski
Age 97, passed away on Thursday, April 22, 2021 at her home in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
She was born on December 14, 1923 in Summit, Illinois to the late Walter and Catherine (nee Galat) Durka.
Florence graduated from Argo Community High School with the class of 1941 and then the University of St. Francis with a degree in nursing. She worked at the old St. Joseph Hospital and Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home. In her free time, Florence enjoyed sewing and gardening. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her husband: Frank J. Wicnienski; parents: Walter and Catherine; son: Michael F. Wicnienski; sisters: Helen Durka, Lillian (Harry) Sklenar, Anne Marie Hatley and Irene Durka, and her brothers: Edward and Chester Durka.
Florence is survived by her two daughters: Marilyn (Tom) Biederstadt and Nancy A. Wicnienski; granddaughter: Carrie A. Biederstadt, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday, April 27, 2021 from 8:30 a.m. until time of closing prayers beginning at 9:30 a.m. at Tezak Funeral Home, 1211 Plainfield Road in Joliet. The funeral will then process to St. Patrick’s Church, 710 W. Marion Street in Joliet for a Mass of Christian Burial beginning at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow and Florence will be laid to rest next to her husband at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery in Romeoville. Masks and social distancing practices are required.
