Evelyn Frances Felbinger (née Skul), of Joliet, Illinois, passed away surrounded by loving family at St. Joseph Hospital in Joliet after a courageous battle fighting a lingering illness on January 19, 2025. She was born on March 22, 1940, in Chicago, Illinois, to Anton and Jennie Skul.
Evelyn will be remembered as a loving wife and mother whose unwavering devotion to her family was the cornerstone of her life. She was a kindhearted, compassionate woman of faith whose gentle spirit left an indelible mark on all who knew her.
Evelyn is survived by her husband of 58 years, Robert Felbinger. The couple married on August 27, 1966, at St. Joseph Church in Joliet and shared a lifetime of love and partnership. Evelyn is also survived by her children: Robert (Amelia) of Brooklyn, New York; Jennifer DeSimone of Woodstock, Illinois; and Michael (Sarah) of Burbank, California. She cherished her grandchildren—Zia and Forest of Brooklyn, New York, and Lumi and Lyla of Burbank, California—who brought immense joy to her life. Evelyn’s sister, Jeanette Louise (Jenny Lou) of Crest Hill, Illinois, who enjoyed a lifelong bond of love and faithfully cared for her during her illness and throughout her life, also survives her. Her joyful spirit will be missed by an extended family of in-laws, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Anthony and Robert; and an infant son who passed away at birth.
Evelyn graduated from St. Francis Academy and earned a Bachelor’s degree in Education from the College of St. Francis. Her nurturing spirit led her to a career as a primary grade school educator in Illinois and Wisconsin. She touched the hearts of students and colleagues at the Romeoville and Joliet School Districts, Cabrini Catholic School (Wausau), Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary School (Sun Prairie), and was voted 1989’s “#1 Teacher” at St. Michael’s Catholic School (Wausau).
A Celebration of Life Memorial Gathering will be held on Friday, January 24, 2025 from 8:30 am until 9:30 am at Tezak’s Home to Celebrate Life, 1211 Plainfield Rd., Joliet, IL 60435. We will then process to Queen of Apostles Catholic Parish, 18 Woodlawn Ave., Joliet, IL for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am. Immediately following Mass, we will then travel in procession to Saint Joseph Catholic Cemetery, 1500 N. Raynor Ave., Joliet, IL for an Inurnment Committal Service in the cemetery chapel before Evie’s cremated remains will be laid to rest.
