Survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Jean (nee Barkowski) Kopec; loving children, Dr. Keith (Dr. Nancy Lorenzini) of Cedar Rapids, IA, Dr. Scott (Rachel) Kopec of Princeton, MA, Lynett (Michael) Mohr of Morton Grove, IL; nine grandchildren, Emily, Brian and John Kopec, Abigail, Amy and Acadia Kopec, Kohler, Callieh and Colin Mohr; one sister, Natalie Kiel of Wayne, NJ.
Preceded in death by parents, John and Anna Kopec; two brothers John and Henry Kopec.
Eugene played football for the University of South Carolina (1950-54). Veteran of the U.S. Army from 1956-58. Retired from Yellow Freight and was currently a part-time employee of the Empress Casino.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to the local chapter of The American Heart Association in Eugene's name would be appreciated.
From where services will be held on Thursday, October 2, 2008 at 9:30 AM to St. Anne Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM. Inurnment with Full Military Honors will be held at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery on Friday at 10:30 AM. Visitation will be on Wednesday from
5:00-9:00 PM.
