Eric L. Johnson

Age 61 of Plainfield and formerly of Hometown, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 12, 2023 at Ascension St. Joseph Hospital in Joliet.

Born January 5, 1962 in Chicago, Eric was the son of Davey and Carol (Keen) Johnson. He was raised and educated in Bridgeview and graduated from Argo High School with the class of 1980. Following graduation, Eric attended Moraine Valley Community College. On March 17, 1983 Eric met the love of his life through mutual friends, Ms. Sandi Girten, and on October 24, 1987 they were married at St. Louis De Montfort Church in Oak Lawn. Eric worked in various industries and eventually found himself serving as medical auditor for the Carpenter’s Welfare Fund which he did up until retiring in 2022. Eric was an avid reader and loved to keep up with current events which always led to great conversations. He was the biggest Chicago Bears fan that anyone would have ever met. He also enjoyed cooking and taking care of others. Eric will be remembered for his generosity and kind heart. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Eric is survived by his wife of 35 years: Sandi Johnson; sister: Brenda Miyagawa; nieces: Ashley Miyagawa and Valerie Miyagawa; uncle: Dennis (Michelle) Daily; father and mother-in-law: Gerald and Carol Girten; sister and brother-in-law: Patricia Girten (John Jagodzinski) and Robert (Jodi) Girten; his five cats: Moe, Larry, Curlie Q, Shempy and Joe-Joe; step-mother: Linda Johnson; step-siblings: Michael (Dawn) Wierzbicki, Amanda Wierzbiecki and Adam Wierzbiecki, as well as numerous cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Davey and Carol.

The family will receive relatives and friends for a visitation on Friday, August 18, 2023 from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Tezak Funeral Home, 1211 Plainfield Road in Joliet. A celebration of Eric’s life will continue on Saturday, August 19, 2023 with a visitation in the funeral home chapel from 9:00 a.m. until start of funeral service beginning at 10:00 a.m. Guests are encouraged to wear their favorite Chicago Bears gear for services. That is what Eric would have wanted. Interment will follow and Eric will be laid to rest at Plainfield Township Cemetery.
