(nee Sandiford) Age 85, entered eternal life on November 14, 2013, surrounded by her family. Born Elizabeth Caroline on March 27, 1928 in Joliet, IL.
Survived by her loving husband of 55 years, William; loving children, John (Julie), Beth, Fr. Jim, Bill (Kathy), Mark (Colleen) and Bob (Rose); loving grandchildren, Meg, Katie, Elizabeth, Nick, Anne, Michael, Anthony, Matthew, Krista, Kara, Colette, Therese, Luke, Thomas, Josie, Johnny, Mary and one due in December. Also survived by in-laws, Ann Marth, Therese (Dave) Conner, Bernice (Don) Walker, Elmer (Marlene) Starasinich; numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Edna (Ward) Sandiford; sister, Mary (Earleen) Shields; sister-in-law, Marge Starasinich; brothers-in-law, Jack Shields and Elmer Marth; nieces, Judith Shields and Terri (Marth) Duchesne.
As a young girl Betty enjoyed her dogs and drawing. Later in life she enjoyed playing bingo with her daughter, sister and friends. Betty attended Sacred Heart Grade School, Washington Junior High School and was a 1946 graduate of Providence Catholic High School. She worked as a secretary for the Joliet Arsenal (Elwood) before starting her family. She was a loving and kind-hearted homemaker who emptied herself into raising her children. Betty frequently helped friends and extended family in their times of need. She was a member of Cantigny Post V.F.W. #367 Ladies Auxiliary, K.S.K.J. #29, St. Joseph Church Seniors and Rosarians, and Will/Grundy Genealogical Society. Betty will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
The family would like to give special thanks to Mom's caregivers, Loreta and Violet, and to the wonderful staff at The Joliet Area Community Hospice Home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Joliet Area Community Hospice.
A celebration of Betty's life will begin on Monday, November 18, 2013 with prayers in the funeral home chapel at 9:20 a.m. then driving in procession to St. Joseph Catholic Church in Joliet for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00 a.m.; Father Jim Starasinich officiating. Interment to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Joliet. Visitation will be held Sunday from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Tezak Funeral Home, 1211 Plainfield Rd, Joliet.
