Eleanor Jane Saxton (nee Evans), age 95, born on October 10, 1921 and born into eternal life on Saturday, August 13, 2016 surrounded by her loving family.
Words are inadequate to sum up the life of this wonderful woman and what she meant to us. The family wishes you to know that she served God and her church through her numerous activities with United Methodist Women. She was an avid bowler and loved animals. She was a simple woman whose life was governed by the Ten Commandments, good judgment, and common sense. She believed in right and wrong and taking responsibility for your actions. She was a lifelong friend to those lucky enough to know her. She was selfless and put the needs of the family before her own. She was totally devoted to all of her family and was there whenever she was needed. Dad summed it up simply by saying “she is such a good person.”
She left this world quietly and without fanfare to be reunited with her husband, Robert. She was met by her loving parents, Fred and Elizabeth Evans; and loving sister, Margaret. Many of her lifelong friends and other family members rejoice in her homecoming, as do the animals she cared for.
She leaves to carry on her legacy her children, Richard (Nancy) Saxton of Huntley, IL, Sue Cattaneo, and Barbara Saxton of Crest Hill, IL. Her loving nature will never be forgotten by her sister, Betty Brosier of Rochester, Michigan; her grandchildren, Jessica Craven, Jenniffer Zapp, Dan Proctor, Eric (Holly) Saxton, Christina, and William Cattaneo; her great-grandchildren, Fiona and Liam Hastings, Adam Craven, and Trent Saxton; nephews, Dave Huster and Jeff Brosier; and her niece, Kimberley (Michael) Anderson.
Her family extends their thanks and gratitude to Dr. Liji Matthews, who provided excellent care of her, as well as to family friend, Angelica Hernandez, who assisted the family in her daily care. We thank the dedicated professionals of Provena In Home Health Services and to Joliet Area Community Hospice, who showed her compassion, respect, and dignity on her final journey.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Joliet Area Community Hospice or to Alzheimer’s Association would be greatly appreciated.
A Celebration of Eleanor’s life will begin on Friday, September 2, 2016 with a funeral service at Grace United Methodist Church, 1718 Avalon Avenue, Joliet, IL 60435 at 10:30 a.m. Interment of cremated remains will be at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, IL. There will be no services held at the funeral home. Per Eleanor’s wishes, cremation rites have been accorded.
